Every night I'm back home in West Virginia
Dreaming of the place I'd rather be
Mountain laurel blooming on the hillside
And a family that's waiting there for me...

I'm miles away far from West Vrginia
Picking fruit and riding old freight trains
Working hard to make a living
Saving every dime to ease the pain...

They say it's pretty home in West Virginia
Mountain breezes blowing through the pines
But it's raining hard in this old train yard
Thinking bout it brings a lonesome chill...

Some day soon, I'll be back home in West Virginia
Though maybe in a lonesome box of pine
Just bury me there high up on the mountain
Where my poor soul can rest through time...
